Mary Michael brings new meaning to the phrase “award-winning art.” A sculptor by trade, Mary was contracted to design the handles of the new Professional Bull Riders (PBR) trophy. The first name was placed on its base in December 2019, and the trophy will continue collecting names annually until it fills up in 2058.
“This piece will outlast me,” Mary laughs. “I was pretty well humbled and honored to be asked to do this.”
The trophy’s handles are mirror images of a rider atop a bucking bull. The piece is one of a kind, cast in silver by Montana Silversmiths.
“A lot of people will see my work through this,” says Mary. “It’s so neat.”
As the President of the WHA Footprints on the Trail Art Show, she says it’s also beneficial to the artists she represents.
“I think this shows that the WHA
has extremely talented and accomplished members. Our artists have won numerous awards and created really wonderful pieces of art. We have some extremely professional artists,” says Mary.
Mary Michael can be found in Room 110 at the WHA Footprints on the Trail Art Show at the Holiday Inn. Montana Silversmiths will be donating jewelry to Art Competing for Causes on Saturday, March 21. For more information, call (406) 579-3891.
