Great Falls Elks Lodge, No. 214 500 1st Avenue South
Western Art Week has been a staple of Montana culture for over 50 years, and March in Montana (MIM) is proud to continue the tradition in March 2021. This year Charlie Russell’s birthday falls on the first day of the sale, so look forward to some celebrating in Charlie’s honor.
The 34th annual March in Montana sale is shaping up to be one of the best. After the 2020 sale had to go online only, MIM is looking forward to having a live event along with multiple online options. The sale is known to be a high energy, fast paced, fun event. MIM looks forward to the possibility of seeing many friends from throughout the country.
With the help of two large estates, MIM has a great selection of the West’s favorite artists, as well as Native American items, weavings, and cowboy memorabilia. Historic artists like William “Bill” Gollings, Olaf Seltzer, John Fery, Joseph Sharp, and William Standing will be represented with fine examples of their work. MIM also has great pieces by Montana favorites Bob Scriver, Newman Myrah, and Larry Zabel, and the next generation of contemporary Western artists, including Abigail Gutting, Ken Yarus, Kira Fercho, Amy Brakeman Livezey, Don Oelze, and Colt Idol. Also, with over 60 weavings in the sale, you can select from some of the best to come to market during the year.
This year MIM has a wide range of pieces that would be perfect for collectors and decorators alike. With this variety, it would be hard not to find the perfect piece to furnish your home, cabin, or lodge. Whether you’re looking for historic pieces or contemporary works, there will be something to fit your space.
The market for Western and Native American art and artifacts has started off 2021 on a tear. The sales that kick off the year have been the strongest in some time, making MIM staff optimistic for the sale.
This year MIM has a super selection of African wildlife and sporting pieces, including many bronzes by some of the favorites at major shows such as the Safari Club. Works by Guy Coheleach, Terry Frost, and the late Lorenzo Ghiglieri will most certainly find new homes.
If that isn’t enough, MIM also has a dealer show along with the sale. You can stop in and visit with some of the top galleries and artists in the country, including Mike Barlow, the Coeur d’ Alene Art Auction, Coeur d’ Alene Galleries, Hodges Fine Art, Manitou Gallery Historic/Palace Jewelers, Settlers West, and Tierney Fine Art.
