Old Cheyenne Warrior by Edmond Albert purchased at the Great Western Show by David A. North
Edmond Albert, a member of the Little Shell Tribe, is a renowned native American artist deeply rooted in his spiritual heritage. Through his original oil paintings, he shares the beauty and stories of his community. With a strong foundation in traditional art forms like pointillism, etching, pastels, and oils, Edmond creates one-of-a-kind pieces that capture the essence of his people.
Edmond explains his, “art is inspired by the world around me, and I often use my own photography as reference. From the vibrant colors of nature to the resilience of my community, every piece is a reflection of my connection to the land and my heritage. As an artist, I believe in the power of art to bring people together. I’m passionate about sharing my work with the community and fellow artists, and I strive to create a welcoming and engaging space for everyone.”
Edmond has been a prominent figure in the Western Art scene since the mid 80s and has participated in over ten C.M. Russell Auctions.
Edmonds wife Sonja Wilkerson Albert, of Comanche descent from Texas, is a Free Flow contemporary artist who uses locally sourced stones, as well as turquoise, crystals, and diamonds in her work.
Sonja says everything she does is incited by feelings which grow every year. “Everything I do is for him, and when I paint to the rhythmic beating of the drums surrounded by sage and candles, it brings out the raw feelings so they zoom into his art.”
She also works as their business manager including planning their shows. Over the years they have done many throughout the Southwest and in Sante Fe, New Mexico. As well stated by Sonja, “Our consistent efforts shape our growth, empowering us to become the best version of ourselves. Excellence emerges from intentional habits, not isolated achievements. Knowledge, skill, and desire unite to forge powerful habits, igniting motivation and progress. Effective listening is fueled by this trio, transforming understanding into action. Desire propels us forward, making knowledge and skill impactful. Steady dedication cultivates lasting habits, yielding rewarding breakthroughs. A friend acknowledged my journey, celebrating years of commitment. I’m dedicated to active listening, growth, and nurturing meaningful friendships.”
A great opportunity to meet Edmond and Sonja is at the Celebration of Plains Artists show within the Great Western Show at Montana ExpoPark during Western Art Week in March 2025.
