The Berkeley Pit:
A former open pit copper mine, this 1,700-foot-deep pit has an observation deck open March through November.
The World Museum of Mining:
Measures over twenty acres and contains dozens of buildings and numerous exhibits highlighting Butte’s industrial heritage. Guests can go on an exhilarating underground mine tour with a professional guide.
The Mineral Museum:
Located on Montana Tech’s campus, with exhibits which help explain why Butte’s geology was so ripe for copper production. You will also find local stones and unique rock formations. Admission is free.
Historic Clark Chateau Museum & Gallery:
Owned by one of Butte’s elite mining dynasties, this 19th Century French-style estate now serves as the city’s center for the fine arts.
Copper Creek Mansion:
This spectacular Victorian Mansion is available for guided tours May through September. The mansion’s B&B is open year-round.
The Dumas Brothel Museum:
This favorite Red Light haunt was in operation from the late 19th Century up into the 1980s, making it one of the world’s longest operating “dens of ill-repute.”
Mai Wah Society Inc.:
The red-brick Mai Wah Society was the most important general store for Chinese laborers. Now a museum, the building includes dozens of Asian-American artifacts.
Pekin Noodle House:
First opened in the early 1900s, Pekin Noodle House is considered the oldest continually operating family-owned Chinese restaurant in America.
Old Butte Historical Tours & Trolley:
A two-hour ride, this trolley tour includes fascinating stories and the history behind famous sites and the National Historic Landmark District.
Spirit of Columbia Gardens Carousel:
Butte’s carousel is a dream come true. Volunteers put tens of thousands of hours into designing, carving, sanding, and painting these ponies.
Our Lady of the Rockies:
Measuring 90 feet, Our Lady of the Rockies is the tallest religious statue in the United States.
