If you hate winter, bad news: you’re probably in the wrong state, but here are a few fun ideas for passing your time until spring.

1) Write a story.
You don’t have to be an experienced author to enjoy creating a story. What should you write about? Get creative! Pen a memoir about your childhood, walking uphill both ways to school. Or write a novel about a superhero whose strength is amplified by the number of cows he’s in proximity to. It doesn’t have to be good; just have fun!

2) Make the coolest clothes.
It’s cold, right? Well, make something warm! Sew or knit a hat in fun colors. Doodle on white socks with a Sharpie. Design the best ugly sweater. And if your creations are hideous, don’t fret; you can save them for gag gifts down the road.

3) Mini golf in your home.
You’d be hard pressed to find a mini golf course open this time of year. So, while you’re snowed in, why not make your own? All you need is a cup, a ball, a putter (or an object similar to a putter), and some creative obstacles—like a sand trap of dirty laundry. Play by yourself or with others, changing the hole placement and obstacles as you go. Just don’t get too overzealous with your swing or you’ll have a restoration project on your hands.

4) Hone your talents.
Are you good at something? Scrapbooking? Lifting weights? Making bologna sandwiches? Well now’s the time to get even better! If you’re going to be indoors anyway, you might as well develop your gifts. Expand your scrapbooking repertoire with new accessories and techniques. Add more weight and/or reps to your lifting routine. Find that perfect ratio of bread to bologna… or give a more difficult recipe a try. Whatever you do, do it with passion, and you’re sure to enjoy your winter!
